After an exhausting, but successful adoption event on Sunday, we all came home looking to kick back a little and relax,...but upon reviewing our voice mails we came across one that let us know our days work has yet to come to a conclusion. In the voice mail, a handicapped lady had borne witness to a dog being thrown out of a car and nearly being run over. The lady was legally blind and bound to a wheelchair, but somehow managed to save the young dog and get it to her house,...but she couldn't keep the dog and was not sure quite what to do at this point, so she contacted us. Exhausted, yet newly energized upon listening to this horrific story, we knew we couldn't let the dog end up in the shelter, so we gathered what energy we had remaining and picked the dog up. Savannah, as she is newly named, is remarkably happy, loving and trusting to people considering what people just did to her. From this day forward, she will never know such heartlessness again.
In the more than ten years since Reishit moved to beautiful Bet Shemesh many well-used items have improved with age. However, the chairs on which a decade's worth of talmidim spent so many hours of learning, being inspired, praying and more are now in dire need of replacement. It is our goal to raise enough funds to replace all the chairs in the Reishit Beis Medrash to last another decade. The costs to replace one chair is $100, which includes $75 for the item and $25 for depreciation costs. We hope to raise $15,000, or 150 chairs by Shavuos 2011. You can donate any amount, but we hope you will find it in your hearts to buy at least one chair or part of a chair. -- Thank you for your support!
